Travel Light

Sunday, March 5, 2017

My friends, I know it has been a while since we’ve caught up. School has been keeping my schedule jam packed but I am still here and I have something to share with you!

“Travel light. Comb and toothbrush and no extra luggage. Don’t loiter and make small talk with everyone you meet along the way.”

Luke 10:4 MSG

Earlier this week I found myself going through my nightly routine but as I was doing so I began thinking of some past hurts that had happened last year and even some as recently as last month. I began to ask God why was I still thinking and pondering the past. Then it hit me. Those hurts and wrong decisions were all baggage that I had accumulated by just living life. If you live long enough you will surely have experiences that can cause your luggage to become heavier as you travel through the journey of life. A mistake you made, a bad break up, a bad childhood or even a soured relationship can all lead to us lugging around junk that we do not need.

Imagine that you have been invited to go camping with your best friends and the trip is centered on you all hiking up a mountain to catch a beautiful view. Bug spray, tents, food, and the bare necessities have all been provided by camp grounds but you decide you need to bring a 24-pack of water. You also decide to bring a tv, a microwave, your favorite chair and your pet gold fish named sushi. Now remember your goal is to hike up a mountain to see the beautiful view from the top, but how can you do that with all your stuff?

Life is the same way. Everything you need has been provided and you don’t need bring everything (or everyone) with you. Lay it down and keep moving. Now I know its easier to say than to actually do but Jesus has a paid a high price for you to see the view from the top. You were made to live a life that is “light,” and simply “carefree,” not “carefree” as in no responsibility but carefree as in you cast all your cares on Him.

You may ask “but how do I lighten my load?” Jesus said it this way hang out with me and I’ll show you (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG). Lean on God in order to lighten you load, He has big plans for you at the top but that luggage has got to go. So sell it on and keep it moving. I think sometimes we caught up in “but they hurt me,” and “I messed up” but here is the thing, God’s love is bigger than all of that so lay that baggage at the foot of the cross and walk in God’s purpose for your life.

With Love,

Taylor Danielle
